Pincher Creek

Canada tours and signtseeing

The town of Pincher Creek is located in Alberta, Canada. It was named in 1868 when some prospectors dropped a pair of pincers in the creek. It was used for trimming horse hooves. They are still being sought to this day. For more history visitors can go to the Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village.

It is a museum and heritage centre. It has 16 buildings and two museums where you can learn about the frontier way of life. The Three Rivers Rock and Fossil Museum has 3,000 specimens. Some of them include fossils, petrified wood, rare rocks, shells and artifacts from the sea, jewellery and more.

Take in the mountains at the Rocky Mountain Front. It runs for 150 miles and has an elevation of 5,000 feet.  A blast from the past can be found at the Pincher Creek Hutterite Colony. It is a working Protestant settlement since 1926. Today there are around 100 people that farm sheep, cattle, hogs and poultry. They also run a dairy plant.
